Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya: A Glimpse into India's Leadership Legacy

Hello Everyone,
I hope all of you are hale and hearty!
In the heart of India's bustling capital, New Delhi, lies a treasure trove of history, politics, and leadership excellence - the Prime Minister's Museum. Nestled within the iconic Teen Murti Bhavan complex, this museum stands as a testament to India's rich political heritage, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to delve into the lives and contributions of the visionary leaders who have shaped the nation's destiny.

The Prime Ministers’ Museum or the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14th April 2022. Located next to the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) on Teen Murti Marg, the museum honours all the Prime Ministers of India since Independence by displaying their respective achievements and sacrifices. The Estate where Musuem has been built was once the home to 1st Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and thus a perfect place to establish the museum. Tagbin was responsible for the design of the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya.

HISTORY

Origin and Establishment: The Nehru Museum and Library complex, an architectural gem designed by Robert Tor Russel, emerged amidst the backdrop of Edwin Lutyens' grand imperial capital plan, taking shape between 1929 and 1930. Following India's independence, a significant chapter in its history began with the inauguration of the museum on November 14, 1964, coinciding with the 75th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, the nation's inaugural Prime Minister. The inauguration officiated by then President S. Radhakrishnan marked the inception of a tribute to Nehru's legacy and a repository of India's historical journey.

Library Enrichment and Spatial Dynamics: Subsequently, in 1966, the library, an integral facet of knowledge preservation, was added to the complex, serving as a scholarly anchor. In 1974, its formal inauguration took place, reinforcing the institution's dedication to academic pursuits. Initially housed in the western and eastern wings of Teen Murti Bhavan, the museum and library underwent a massive change driven by the rapid accumulation of research material. This growth prompted the construction of a dedicated library building, inaugurated in 1974 by then President VV Giri.

A Vision of Holistic Commemoration: In 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisioned an innovative extension to the complex, encapsulating the essence of all Indian Prime Ministers. This visionary proposal led to the approval, on November 11, 2016, by the executive council of the NMML, to establish a museum dedicated to all the nation's prime ministers. This groundbreaking initiative aimed to illuminate the collective leadership that has shaped India's destiny.

Culmination and Inauguration: The endeavor to create the Prime Ministers' Museum reached its fruition in 2022 after four years of dedicated construction efforts. On April 21, 2022, the Prime Minister Modi officiated the inauguration of the Prime Ministers' Museum, solidifying the concept of leadership continuum and offering an insightful narrative of India's Prime Ministers across eras.

BHARAT DARSHAN PARK- A Journey Through India's Rich Cultural Heritage in Delhi

Greetings everyone,

I hope you all are hale and hearty!
I am back with another blog on my visit to Bharat Darshan Park.

Bharat Darshan Park is located in Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi.
It is a very beautiful, unique and innovative place with glimpse of some important monuments spread across India.

The park houses various monuments which have been made from material seized by the MCD. This material was later given different shapes and sizes to make replicas of beautiful monuments. Some of the materials used for making are Angles, Pipes, Cycle Fork, Tyre Rims, Cycle Tyres, Car Steering & Gates, Nut & Bolts, Cycle Pedals, Electric Pole, pistons, gas cylinders etc.

One can find glimpse of the replicas of 21 monuments namely,
Tawang gate, Qutab Minar, Charminar, Gateway of India, Taj Mahal, Konark Temple, Victoria Memorial, Sanchi stupa, Hampi, Meenakshi Temple, Mysore Palace, Ajanta & Ellora caves, Hawa Mahal, Gol Gumbaz, Khajuraho Temple, Nalanda university, Junagarh Fort, Badrinath temple, Dwarkadhish Temple, Rameshwaram Temple, Jagannath Temple and a Banyan Tree.

Apart from monuments some other beautiful designs have also made from waste material in the park like sitting benches, tables, chairs etc..

In evening, light and sound show also happen at the premises.

Some interesting facts-
  • Bharat Darshan Park was inaugrated on 24 December 2021 and was open for public from 25 December 2021.
  • It is spread over 8.5 acres
  • It took almost 22 months to get constructed
  • Municipal Corporation of Delhi has constructed this park and is maintaining the same.
  • The park has combined music with at least 200 shades of lights to beautify each of these replicas.
  • The park also has amphitheatre, walking track, eating plaza, fountains, children zone and beautiful flowers & trees.
  • Cost of construction was around ₹20 crores
  • Around 755 facade lights, 600 bollard lights, one DJ set and 102 compound lights have been installed to illuminate the replicas in the evening.

These sculptures are painstakingly crafted by skilled artisans, showcasing the rich artistic heritage of India .Various artists from all over India like Zakhir Khan, Krunal Kehar, Kamar Alam have designed these phenomenal architectures.

Furthermore, Bharat Darshan Park aims to create awareness about environmental conservation and sustainability. Another thing which I loved about the park was the ecological measure taken to generate electricity using solar energy. Solar trees and solar roofs have been installed for the same.  As a result the park is generating more green power than it is using.

After the creation of this park natural habitat has also increased extensively. Various new birds and beautiful insects can also be seen. Some birds include Peacock, sparrow, Koel etc.

The park is designed to resemble a journey across India, showcasing the distinct cultural heritage of different states through its carefully curated exhibits.
The park also features beautifully landscaped gardens, dotted with fountains, walkways, and seating areas, providing a serene and tranquil ambiance for visitors to relax and soak in the beauty of the surroundings.
